Oxidations of thiols and thioethers

Oxidations of thiols or thioethers lead to the corresponding sulfonyl chlorides and sulfones using either chlorine or hydrogen peroxide with a catalyst. Especially the oxidation of thiols with chlorine is a suitable and specific path to alkyl sulfonyl chlorides.
