Chlorination with Sulfuryl chloride

Sulfuryl chloride can be used as alternative to chlorine as a more selective reagent for the chlorination of carbonyl functioned compounds, benzylic positions and aromatics. Sulfuryl chloride is also used for the cleavage of alkyldisulfides to the corresponding thiochlorides.

Reaction scheme

Strengths

- on-site production and captive use of Sulfuryl chloride
- continuous and batch reactions
- recycling of HCl and SO2
